This month with UDC ... the latest truck industry news and economic update with Cam Bagrie.
We attend the Intertruck Distributors launch event of the latest brand to come into their fold, the China-sourced FAW range of medium-heavy and heavy-duty trucks. On a rainy Friday evening in November we chatted with managing director Comer Board on what it all means and what's coming our way, we join in on a vehicle walk around of a JH6 model with salesman Shaun Jury, and finish up with an address from regional representative for FAW, Mr Clinton Zhou.
Just over a year ago the New Zealand Trucking Association (NTA), in conjunction with the National Road Carriers (NRC), Success Formula, Fit for Duty, Autosense, and the ACC grants program, launched the HARMfree portal – an online enabler and tool chest targeted at helping SMEs meet health and safety compliance requirements within the road transport industry. With 300-plus sign-ons serving 80,000 employees, programme head John Sansom discusses the latest addition to the suite – RAW, short for Recovery at Work.
There's a whole new world heading our way, and whether we like it or not, we need to find out more about it so we're ready. Powering On talks to people in the know and those who have already headed off on a new propulsion journey. We aim to make it not too techy, delivering useful information for those who will still be responsible for delivering our new tomorrow. This month, New Zealand Trucking magazine editor Gavin Myers tells us all about living with a JAC N60 EV for a week.
Our resident Business, Together business columnist Roylance Watson from accounting firm Vazy Child in Hamilton picks topics from her writings to share on the UDC Business of Trucking podcast. This month, the mystical world of marketing, and we learn when it comes to good messaging habits, there's not the gap we think there is between then an now.
Clear the Air is the section where co-host Dave McCoid and his good mate and environmental champion Lindsay Wood discuss the climate and environmental issues of the day, as they should be discussed – respectfully!
This month, we chat about Lindsay's column in the November issue 'Trying to play our energy cards right, and revisit the intriguing Energy Cost of Energy concept.' Is it a first of Mother Natures own cards?
Enjoy!

The intellectual might of New Zealand Trucking Media brings all they have to the table in a post workday chat at their local. Sometimes they convince some poor unfortunate soul to join them. The result is more often than not ….. concerning.
This month we're joined by David Tanner from McCall Creek Mississippi with his take on the US Presidential elections, and Finance HQ's local rep Adrian Hunt who was heading home on a Friday 'arvo' and thought he'd pop in, only to find himself thrust in front of a microphone. What a great sport!

This month on the Vocational Podcast ...
If you're looking for an entertaining, frank, funny, no-holds-barred yarn with one of the great industry characters of the modern era, you'll do no better than Robert Pascoe, founder of RPC Logistics. Starting his own metro trucking business in the highly competitive scene that was early 80s Auckland, he had all the key components required to make a go of it – smarts, savvy, a huge work ethic, and several hundred-weight of cheek. Strap in – here we go as he recounts a wonderful adventure in business as only he could.
We catch-up with our new Euro regular in Sweden, log truck driver Mattias Vikberg. It's been a muddy autumn in the forest, there's a new configuration, thankfully no wild animals, and he's about to join a Scania Roadshow for a couple of weeks demonstrating alternatively propelled heavy trucks. It's all go in Mattias's world!
Lager than life Yogi Kendall – the one-man trucking industry cheer leader – joins us for a catch-up on everything from electronic work diaries and carting farm machines interstate, to making Lamingtons.
We talk to Wheels at Wanaka 2025 organising team member Annabel Roy for the first of a regular catch-up between now and the big event at Easter next year.

This Edition – Ray and Fiona Reid are one of the most infectiously fun and funny couples you'll meet and proof that incredibly hard work is a nursery for great character. A third-generation transport operator, Ray, with his grandfather, father, and uncle, ran one of the most identifiable line-haul trucking brands through the halcyon days of pre- and post-deregualtion trucking in New Zealand – Reids' of Rangiotu.
This is one that will have you laughing, and enjoying the best walk down memory lane.
Plus, Dave has the Whats On in the industry leading up to Christmas.

This month we chat with Mark Irving from Mt Maunganui based Heavy Vehicle Machinery Solutions (HVMS) about what they're gearing up for in the conversion space. It's a classic Kiwi take-the-bull-by-the-horns innovation story.
